How Canadian marks work
Every civil aircraft in Canada carries a registration starting with C- (for example C-GABC or C-FQYH). Older aircraft may still be written in the legacy CF- form. You can type it any way — with or without the dash, upper or lower case — and we'll find it.

How do I look up a Canadian aircraft registration?
Type the mark into the box above. Canadian registrations start with C- (C-GABC, C-FQYH) and older aircraft may still be written CF-ABC. Dashes, spaces and capitals make no difference. You get the make, model, year, category, serial number and the province it is based in, straight from the Transport Canada Civil Aircraft Register.
Is the Canadian aircraft registry free to search?
Yes. No charge, no account, and no limit on how many marks you look up.
Can I find out who owns an aircraft from its registration?
Not here, and not from the register data Transport Canada publishes. The bulk file holds aircraft details only: make, model, year, weight, engine and category. Owner names and addresses are not in it, so no site working from that file can show you an owner, whatever it may imply. If an aircraft is for sale on MarketPlane, the seller's contact details are on the listing because they chose to put them there.
What does the C- in a Canadian aircraft registration mean?
C is Canada's international registration prefix, assigned under the Chicago Convention. The letter after it tells you roughly when the mark was issued: C-F marks are the older series carried over from the original CF- format, and C-G marks came in once those ran short. C-I marks are used for ultralights.
How current is the registration data?
It is a snapshot of the Transport Canada Civil Aircraft Register, refreshed periodically, and the date it is current to is shown at the foot of this page. Transport Canada also takes several weeks to record a change of ownership, so a recently sold aircraft can still show its previous details in any copy of the register, including this one.
Can I search the register by aircraft type instead of by mark?
Yes. The type links further down open every aircraft of that make and model on the Canadian register, with how many there are, how old they are and where they are based. Useful if you are valuing one, or working out how common a type is before you buy.
