It's finished. The Cub has been reassembled and the sign-off with test flight will be completed this week, and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. Ready to go to someone who wants a better than new Cub and will love it and care for it as I have for the past 25 years. The restoration was extensive. Fuselage and control surfaces stripped, inspected, powder coated and recovered with the Stits process. Wings, struts, jury struts, gear legs, cowlings and fairings stripped, cleaned, minor repairs as required, prepped and repainted. All side windows replaced with new tinted Lexan. Reassembled with new hardware, and new cables and turnbuckles where needed. New fuel line. New 406 ELT with a custom fabricated mount. The last overhaul/rebuild was in 1994 and it has flown about 650 hours since, on wheels, skis and floats. The C-85-12 has 1,774 TT and 320 hours since an extensive top overhaul with four new ECI cylinder assemblies. With the SkyTech starter it runs like a top, compressions in the high 70s and minimal oil consumption. Since the 1994 rebuild it has spent fewer than five nights outdoors. It flew on EDO 1320 floats from 2017 and was an exceptional performer on them; the floats have been removed and sold, and the aircraft is now on wheels. Based for years at CLS4 in Nova Scotia, now hangared at Debert (CCQ3). It left Lock Haven on August 5, 1939, signed off by Walter Jamouneau. The first 27 years of its colourful history were spent bouncing around the US midwest, including a short period of military training during the war, before it was imported to Manitoba in 1966. I'm the 33rd registered owner and by a wide margin the longest, and I'm honoured to have been its caretaker for a quarter of its life. They say the clock stops for no man and, sadly, it's time for me to step aside, so I'm looking for someone to take over the next segment of this beautiful airplane's journey.
